About Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is extracted from seeds of the hemp plant. The extraction occurs through cold-pressing, similar to the way that olives are cold-pressed to make olive oil, to extract the useful components of the seed.

Quick aside: although the hemp and the cannabis (marijuana) plant belong to the same plant family, Cannabis sativa L, they are two different plants and have different compositions. Most notably, the cannabis plant contains high amounts of THC, which is the pyschoactive component in marijuana, whereas the hemp plant contains less than 0.3% THC.

The many health benefits of hemp seed oil come from its high content of three fatty acids: linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and gamma-linolenic acid. Additionally, its ratio of omega-6 (linoleic acid) to omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) fatty acids is 3:1.

Experts agree that this 3:1 fatty acid ratio is ideal for health benefits in humans.

One of the most common uses of this ideal fatty acid composition is for revitalizing dry or irritated skin. Hemp Seed Oil is able to moisturize without clogging up pores. Best of all, when combined with other natural healers, you can create an extremely powerful and healing mixture.

At Hippie Hemp Co. we're using our combined experience in the hemp industry to create better products for everyone. We first started with our hemp seed oil chapstick. Once the lips of our customers were moisturized, we decided to move on to the rest of the skin and that's when we launched our hemp seed oil lotion.

At Hippie Hemp Co. we're going to continue to create the most innovative and effective hemp seed oil products on the market!
